GEAR REVIEW: Seekins Precision Havak Element

When people ask me what type of gun they should buy, I like to attribute the buying process to that of cars. Guns just like cars, can come in a variety of offerings, finishes and looks. For the most part, they all run and get you where you want to go, but some are way more enjoyable to shoot and or drive. They can be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, and some are more ergonomic than others. In the end all guns go bang but the enjoyment factor can dramatically increase with the craftsmanship, features and details that certain firearms bring over others.

Back in the day, I used to own a Porsche Boxster. Every time I parked that car and walked away from it, I always found myself looking back at it in admiration. This is the same feeling I get with the Seekins Precision Havak Element. Some guns really stand out amongst the crowd with a certain sex appeal and the Havak Element hits that mark for me. I have always been a fan of Seekins Precision, starting with their scope rings and their SP-10 that I have used quite extensively. When they released their Havak line back in 2018, I have been wanting one ever since and that desire only increased when they released the Havak Element.

About Seekins Precision

Seekins Precision was founded by Glen Seekins in 2004-2005. He first developed and designed a set of scope rings to replace a set that broke, costing him the opportunity of a harvest while hunting.  Seekins Precision is known for quality and like their name says, PRECISION.  When touring the factory back in 2017 and learning about the company,  Director of Quality Control Lukus Matoon said, “(most) manufacturer’s quality standards are equivalent to that of a human hair.  We quarter them.”

Two cool things to highlight when talking about Seekins Precision is their unlimited lifetime warranty which transfers with the weapon and their accuracy guarantee. The accuracy guarantee is dependent upon the satisfaction of the shooter. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with the rifle, Seekins Precision will take care of you.

About the Havak Element

The Havak Element is a firearm that shoots just as good if not better than how it looks. It is comfortable in hand, shoulders well and have I mentioned looks phenomenal. Between sighting in the rifle, shooting it, and using it on a hunt, my high hopes that I had for the rifle were all met if not exceeded while putting it through its paces.

Since the gun is built to be a light weight rifle, you can expect the gun to kick with larger or magnum sized cartridges. For that reason alone, Seekins Precision includes their Advanced Tactical Compensator with the rifle but you will need to install it yourself. I prefer to shoot and hunt suppressed, and I imagine Seekins Precision staff does as well, which is why their compensator does not come installed on the rifle, but that is just an assumption.

On their website, they mention that the trigger is user adjustable from 2.5 lbs. to 5 lbs. I did not measure what pull weight it was set at, but I did feel the need to lighten it just a bit. Overall the gun looks great, shoots phenomenal and will be a great addition to any gun safe that it enters.

  • Very Accurate
  • Lightweight for mountain hunting
  • Factory flush cups
  • Tool-less bolt assembly
  • Great looking rifle
  • Extended (COAL) which is good for reloading longer bullets.
  • Larger trigger guard for ease of use with gloves

cons

  • The spiral fluting on the bolt is only on the side that shows when the bolt is locked in battery – Minimum issue but something that stood out to me
  • The carbon composite stock although strong, feels cheap and makes a plastic hollow sound when tapped on
  • Feeding rounds at times was a little rough and finicky

  1. Their customer service could be better. No one will ever answer the phone for customer service? A message is left and it could be a couple days before anyone will call you back.
