Whether you’re riding fence lines at first light, tracking hogs through mesquite flats, or chasing elk deep into timber country with nothing but a saddlebag and grit, the lever gun still carries a spirit no other rifle ever will. There’s something about running a lever in the dark under a sky full of stars that connects a man to every cowboy, ranch hand, and backwoods hunter who came before him. But today’s modern-day cowboy isn’t tied to the past—he’s building on it. He wants a rifle that honors tradition while standing ready for the unknown miles ahead, and that’s exactly where upgrading your lever gun with Ranger Point Precision gear changes the game.

Factory lever guns have soul, but they often leave performance on the table. Heavy furniture, outdated ergonomics, and limited mounting options can hold back a rifle that deserves to be run hard in real country. I learned that firsthand after buying my first lever gun—a Marlin 1895 Trapper in .45-70—and realizing it wasn’t set up for the kind of night hunting I wanted to use it for. As much as I appreciate the grace, nostalgia, and timeless feel of a stock lever gun, I also consider myself a modern-day cowboy. So when it came time for another lever gun, I knew without a doubt I’d outfit it entirely with Ranger Point Precision components, transforming it from a nostalgic brush gun into a modern adventure rifle: lighter, faster, more adaptable, and ready for whatever waits beyond the next ridgeline. From M-LOK handguards and quivers to precision stocks and upgraded internals, every piece feels built for hunters and shooters who believe the frontier never disappeared—it just looks different now.

About Ranger Point Precision

Ranger Point Precision is a Texas-based company that’s carved out a loyal following among lever-gun shooters and practical firearms enthusiasts who want modern performance without abandoning classic platforms. Their focus is on upgrading rifles like the Marlin and Henry lines with precision-machined components—handguards, stocks, rails, and internal parts—that bring better ergonomics, modularity, and durability to guns that were originally designed in a very different era. It’s the kind of gear that appeals to folks who actually run their rifles hard, not just admire them in a safe.

What really sets Ranger Point Precision apart is how they blend old-school Americana with modern tactical sensibilities. You’ll see M-LOK compatibility, lightweight aluminum construction, and thoughtful design touches that make mounting optics, lights, and slings feel natural instead of forced. At the same time, they respect the heritage of the platforms they’re upgrading—nothing feels gimmicky or out of place. The end result is a line of products that turns traditional lever guns into capable, contemporary tools without stripping away the character that made people fall in love with them in the first place.

About the Upgrades

As mentioned previously, I’ve always loved a good lever gun, but I wasn’t looking to pay Marlin prices. This time around, I opted for a Rossi 95 Triple Black chambered in .30-30, largely because it came factory-threaded for a suppressor. The rifle already had great visual appeal out of the box, but I treat every firearm I own as a purpose-built tool. To turn this rifle into the ideal nighttime predator setup for Texas hunting, I knew a few upgrades were in order.

That led me to Ranger Point Precision’s website, where I started piecing together the build. My primary goal was finding a handguard rail that would allow me to attach an Arca rail so I could run the rifle on a tripod without needing a saddle. I also wanted onboard ammo storage for faster, more convenient reloads in the field.

Like any modern cowboy, I wanted to strike the right balance between ergonomics, functionality, and aesthetics while still respecting the heritage of the lever gun platform. My good friend Weston—who I jokingly refer to as “The Trashman”—has always insisted that rails and modern handguards have no place on a lever gun. But after seeing the finished setup in action, even he reluctantly admitted that the rifle looked good and carried a little sex appeal for all the gun enthusiasts out there.

When selecting accessories, I wanted a setup that would really stand out, so I chose the Root Beer-colored PewView handguard and buttstock set as the centerpiece of the build. From there, I added two six-round M-LOK quivers, a nicely textured hammer extension, a .30-30 takedown screw, and a set of walnut M-LOK rail covers. To finish it off, I paired the rifle with a PARD USA 640-resolution thermal optic and a HUXWRX Flow 36 Ti suppressor.

Installation was mostly straightforward, and I felt comfortable tackling the upgrades myself. That said, there were a couple moments where I was especially thankful that Ranger Point Precision provides detailed installation videos. The most challenging part by far was replacing the factory stock tenon—the dovetailed piece in the magazine tube that the handguard mounts to—with the upgraded RPP tenon.

Modernize Your LEver Gun

In the end, this build became far more than just another lever gun project. It turned into a perfect example of what the modern lever-action platform can be when tradition and innovation are allowed to work together instead of against each other. Combining the soul of the past with some modern flavor, Ranger Point Precision bridges that gap beautifully, modernizing these rifles without stripping away the character that made us fall in love with them in the first place.

After running this Rossi 95 setup, I can confidently say the upgrades delivered exactly what I hoped for: a rifle that feels faster, more capable, more comfortable, and purpose-built for real-world hunting applications. From the Root Beer PewView furniture and M-LOK quivers to the enhanced ergonomics and tripod-ready functionality, every component contributed to transforming this rifle from a nostalgic brush gun into a true modern adventure rifle. Pairing it with a thermal optic and a suppressor only reinforced what this platform is capable of in the field.

At the end of the day, Ranger Point Precision understands something many companies miss: lever guns aren’t relics of the Old West—they’re still working rifles for people who live adventurous lives and demand practical performance from their gear. Their products respect the heritage of these firearms while pushing them confidently into the future. For shooters who believe the frontier never disappeared—it simply evolved—Ranger Point Precision offers some of the best upgrades you can put on a lever gun today.
