Guns are just like tools. There are multiple types of screwdrivers, but that doesn’t mean you use a Phillips for every job. And just like tools, there is no single firearm or tool to rule them all. Having the right firearm for the job makes everything better and sometimes a semi-automatic rifle is exactly what the job calls for. This is where the Seekins Precision DMR (Dedicated Marksman Rifle) shines.

About Seekins Precision

Add a 3″ arca rail to the m-lok handguard and you are rock solid for all hunting and shooting applications

Seekins Precision was founded by Glen Seekins in 2004-2005. He first developed and designed a set of scope rings to replace a set that broke, costing him the opportunity of a harvest while hunting.  After purchasing his first CNC machine and having success with scope rings, Glen moved into creating what Seekins Precision was next known for and that is high quality billet made AR-15 lower and upper receiver sets. This is where I came to learn about Seekins Precision.

A few things that set Seekins Precision apart from other AR manufacturers is their unlimited lifetime warranty which transfers with the weapon and their accuracy guarantee. The accuracy guarantee is dependent upon the satisfaction of the shooter. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with the rifle, Seekins Precision will take care of you which I view as a huge selling point.

The oversized trigger guard is a nice feature of the billet lower when shooting in cold weather while wearing gloves. I wanted swapped out the TriggerTech Competition trigger which was great with a Timney Calvin Elite to get a lighter trigger pull.

About the DMR

The DMR (Dedicated Marksman Rifle) is a firearm that flat out shoots consistently and accurately. It is not your standard lightweight red dot truck gun that you rattle canned spray painted. This is a tool meant for precision and it shoots just as good as it looks. At first appearance, you notice the Magpul PRS Lite completely adjustable stock that is not found on your average AR, followed by the flat bottom handguard (which is great for shooting off of barricades) and lastly, the skeletonize billet lower.

When you hold the rifle for the first time you notice that this gun carries more weight than a standard mil-spec AR, with the 6 ARC and 22 inch barrel weighing in at 8.2 lbs. But that weight is intentional, and anyone who has competed in Precision Rifle Shooting knows, the heavier the gun the less felt recoil and more you can stay on target for follow up shots.

The machining lines and design of all of Seekins Precision’s billet AR lowers, uppers and parts all scream high quality. Pulling on the Seekins DNA charging handle, you realize the attention to detail in all the machined parts, from the texture to the ambidextrous bolt catch the fit and feel of the rifle.

The DMR comes in three chamberings: 223 Wylde/5.56, 22 ARC & 6 ARC. The 223 & 22 ARC chamberings come in either a 16″ or 18″ offering, while the 6 ARC is only offered in a 22″ but all with a 1:8 twist rate.

The foundation of the DMR is the matching billet receiver set. Billet receivers are typically more expensive because they are machined out of one solid piece of aluminum. This is how Seekins is able to machine the hard lines along with their oversized trigger guard in the lower, which saves you money by not needing to buy aftermarket parts.

The DMR comes with their 15″ SP3RV3 MLOK handguard which includes QD sling mounts and balances the rifle nicely over the length of the barrel. The gun also comes with their own adjustable gas block which allows you to tune your rifles gas system to your exact liking and helps when adding suppressors on the barrel. I love hunting and shooting suppressed so I removed their NEST flash hider and added a Huxwrx QD mount for my Ventum 762.

The trigger is a Trigger Tech AR Competition trigger set at 3 lbs. It has very little creep and a solid crisp break with a short reset. In the pictures of this review you will notice a Timney Calvin Elite trigger instead of the TriggerTech Competition. I replaced the trigger solely on the lighter pull weight which I prefer. Overall the gun looks great, shoots phenomenal and will be a great addition to any gun safe that it enters. I put the DMR through its paces on several hog hunts in Texas where it performed flawlessly and accurately.

Notice the beautiful lines of the machined bolt catch, safety lever and the upper receiver. I attached velcro to the upper for an external battery pack when thermal hunting

Couple the DMR with great optics and a suppressor and you will be extremely pleased with your shooting experience

After shooting the DMR in 6 ARC, I found that it shot Hornady’s 103 gr. ELD-X Precision Hunter better than the 80 gr. ELD-VT pictured above. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of groups from the 103’s but it was substantially better than what you see above and what I chose to hunt with.
